CT scans have become increasingly useful in identifying the complexity of the fracture and also useful in outlining the treatment plan for these fractures. MRI scans are favored by increasing number of surgeons because of the superior results in identifying soft tissue injury in these fractures.

Schatzker Classification is the most commonly used one in North America.

These are divided into six types based on the location of fracture and the degree of displacement and depression.

Role of Arthroscopy; Diagnostic tool-- Asses the damage to menisci, cruciate ligaments, articular cartilage.

Second role in the application of treatment. Assist in elevation of depressed fragment, Partial menisectomy, and thorough wash out of the joint.
